Proofreader For Hire
Majestic Athletic apparel and the Philadelphia Inquirer could both use a good proofreader, judging by the following items of note.
1) Last night, Giants outfielder Eugenio Velez appeared in a game against Houston wearing a jersey with “San Francicso” across the front:
Hmm, wonder where that is? I haven’t been able to find it in my atlas.
2) In this morning’s Inquirer was an item about a recent Forbes magazine comparison of the worth of all the major league franchises:
“31 other” major league franchises? Meaning there are 32 altogether? Why have I never been aware of these two additional teams??
Since both Majestic and the Inquirer are located right here in eastern Pennsylvania – according to its website, Majestic is in Easton, PA, and the Inquirer is obviously in Philadelphia – I kindly offer my proofreading services to them. I wouldn’t ask for much in return. Some free jerseys, maybe? A chance to tag along with the Inky’s photographers? Anyway, I could certainly do a better job than whoever is doing it now.
Good catches on those mistakes, Sue. It never ceases to amaze me how often the “mainstream media” makes mistakes, both in actual content and in grammar and punctuation. That said, I had to re-read this comment twice because I found typos in it. LOL.

If I was them I would certainly hire you! Not only to proofread but to photograph! That is real bad about the uni being wrong and that noone caught that! wow!

I would say as many people as possible should email Don McKee at dmckee@phillynews.com and let him know the error of his ways, but he’d just say he copied and pasted it from an AP article… pass the blame the inquirer can do that…. not the first time a spell checker has been needed by an MLB team or the jersey makers, just lucky they weren’t penalized for incorrect attire and forced to forfeit the game…

Jane – For some reason, these kind of things jump out at me all the time. I can’t read a book without catching at least one or two typos that somehow slipped through. It’s kind of a curse.
Emma – You would think when they make those uniforms they would make sure everything was correct before they sewed it on! A little harder to fix after the fact than on the computer.
Peter – In fact, I did email McKee this morning; no reply yet though. 🙂
San Francicso? Where in the world is that? Mexico?! If I’d were them, I’d go find that place to cover their tracks!! 32 teams now, eh? Let me guess- One of those is in San Francicso and the other is on another imaginary island.

Hahaha. Funny stuff. I saw the jersey thing (a la Zimmerman/Dunn’s “Natinals”) but not the Enquirer. My own idiot colleague miscalculated the number of MLB teams the other day. In all cases it’s unacceptable 🙂

I have been to San Francicso many times. Hard to find, but if you can get there, you’ll love it.
Reminds me of the “Natinals” fiasco last year.
Funny stuff!

That is too funny….and exactly why I always wonder how people like you and I can’t get these jobs when they have total morons doing them now. I think they are allergic to people with brains ;o)
