Well, THAT Took Me By Surprise!

Call it a Christmas miracle.

As I was reading a column in today’s paper that the Phillies were “showing interest” in signing Cliff Lee, hubby came in the door and said that the Phils had actually signed him. “Yeah, right”, I thought. So I checked the news on my handy cell phone (what did we ever do without them?), and saw that it was so. And for fewer years and less money than either the Yankees or Rangers were offering! With Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels, and now Lee, the Phillies’ starting rotation will be a force to be reckoned with next season. πŸ™‚

It was only last year around this time that I was lamenting Cliff’s departure to Seattle via trade, and wishing there was a way to clone him.

Congrats, Sue, on getting your Christmas Cliff Lee present! πŸ˜‰
I was telling people on our Red Sox blog (even back in Oct.) to not be surprised if Lee were to return to Philly. I don’t think he wanted to be traded away in the first place, any more than you wanted to lose him. If he wasn’t going to re-sign with Texas, I thought Philly was a logical place, and I am happy for you guys that you got him! Your rotation (with or without Blanton) is pretty darn good now (I think that was part of the attraction for him, also)! And hey, you have another heiny to check out again! πŸ˜‰
Take care, Sue, and have a good Christmas/ holiday!

    Sue,
Some of us had the feeling that Philly was the mystery team after watching Werth pack his gear for Washington. But Lee made a nice statement that showed it is not always about the $$$ by going back to a team he felt the chemistry and solid chance to again gain a ring.
The present Phillies rotation reminds me of a Atlanta foursome not so long ago that could just dominate and take names this year.
Thank goodness the Rays do not have to see Philly after Spring Training this year.
Again congrats on getting the catch of the year just in time for the holidays.
